Attachment Wounding & Family of Origin Issues

Our early childhood and adolescent years are formative in our functioning as adults. Many times our caregivers did not have the emotional maturity needed to provide safe environments for our development. This can result in challenges in the way our nervous system operates and regulates our bodies as adults. Many adults who experience depression and anxiety have nervous systems which are dysregulated and hypervigilant as a result of attachment wounding & family of origin issues.
This can also lead to a lack of development of a sense of self which can result in patterns such as people-pleasing, caretaking, and can also hinder one's ability to handle conflict.
How I Can Help
I partner with patients who may have had adults in their lives who did not provide an emotionally or physically safe environment. Because of these issues, my patients may have developed maladaptive ways of coping, such as substance use, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and unfulfilling or abusive relationships.
Through trauma processing and integration of these difficult experiences, my patients effectively develop a strong sense of self, communicate their needs, set boundaries, and face conflicts in adaptive ways.
